Working the inbox
Compose and reply
Who a reply goes out as, what the editor can do, send and archive, send later, and the undo window.
Replies are written inline, under the conversation. New messages open in a
dialog from the + in the sidebar or c.

Who it goes out as
Mail from a shared inbox goes out from the inbox’s address with the name of the teammate who wrote it: “Dana Whitfield <support@…>”. Replies come back to the inbox, not to Dana. An inbox can be set to send under one fixed name instead, in Settings → Inboxes → Edit. Mail from your personal inbox goes out as you.
The From chip on a reply shows exactly what the customer will see. Reply, Reply all and Forward are on each message’s menu; the newest message also has a Reply button.
The editor
Fonts, sizes, bold, italic, underline, strike, text colour, highlight, alignment, line spacing, lists, indents, links and quotes. Click a link inside the editor and a bar shows where it points, with Change and Remove, the way Gmail does it.
Under the editor:
- Insert template, the bolt, for a saved reply with the customer’s name filled in. See Templates and signatures.
- Attach files, up to 25 MB each.
- Emoji.
- Schedule send, for a reply that should land on Monday morning. A scheduled reply shows in the timeline with a Cancel button until it goes.
- Discard draft.
The signature line above the toolbar says which signature will be appended on send, or No signature, and lets you switch.
Sending
Send & archive is the main button, and ⌘↵ / Ctrl ↵. It sends,
archives the conversation, and moves you to the next one in the list. The
dropdown beside it has plain Send and Send later.
The composer refuses to send an empty message or one with no recipient, and says so beside the button rather than in a toast.
Undo
A sent reply waits before it really goes. The toast at the foot of the screen offers Undo for that window, and Undo restores the draft and reopens the conversation if it was archived. The window is per inbox, ten seconds by default, up to sixty, or zero: Settings → Inboxes → Edit.
If a send fails, the timeline shows a card saying so, with the reason on hover, and retries. It stays until you dismiss it.
Reading a message closely
Click a sender’s name on any message for the full headers: from, to, cc,
reply-to, date, who mailed and signed it, and whether it passed SPF, DKIM
and DMARC. Anyone outside your workspace carries an External chip.
Each message’s menu also offers Print, Download (the original
.eml, fetched from Gmail) and View source.
Quoted text from earlier in a thread is collapsed behind a ••• pill.
Attachments open in a new tab.
